Understanding the World
Understanding of the World is a very broad area of development in which skills are developed to enable children to explore and make sense of the world around them. This area incorporates the use of technology and how it might be used in everyday life. Understanding the World builds the base from which subjects including science, geography and history begin. Children are introduced to the basic skills required to investigate, question and test their own ideas like a scientist. They can find out about people and communities both near and far, past and present like a historian and they can discover and research their environment and the wider world like a geographer.
At Cutnall Green, this is facilitated through sharing experiences, carrying out practical investigations of interest and exploring the local community as well as researching the wider world through books, listening to external visitors to school and through the many real life experiences our children are exposed to both in and out of the classroom. We are very fortunate to have extensive and mature grounds in which our early years pupils have continuous provision to- come rain or shine!
