​Read Write Inc

Read write inc. phonics is a teaching programme, that teaches children all of the sounds in the English language, it also incorporates reading, spelling and writing.  The children are taught by ability for up to an hour each day in a fun interactive way.  The children will learn skills that will support progression in all subject areas.  In the Autumn Term, we will also invite you in for a parent phonics workshop.

Speed Sounds​

Children will begin by learning set 1 speed sounds.  Children will be taught the letter sound (phoneme) not name and the corresponding image (grapheme)  They will learn a short rhyme that will support how to form the letter sound.

Beginning to Read

​Children will then begin to segment and blend some simple words like this and learn ‘red words’ on sight.

Progression​

Once your child is able to read some of the green words, they will move onto ditty books, before moving onto green books, we would like all children to be on green books by the time they leave reception.
