Pre-School New Starters

Welcome

We look forward to welcoming your child in pre-school. We hope you find the following information useful. As always, we offer an open-door policy so, please contact us if you have any queries or questions.

Kind regards,

EYFS team.

A day in pre-school

Our newly built pre-school provides childcare for children aged 3 to 4 years of age. We are open during school term-time where pupils can attend for morning, afternoon sessions or all day. Pre-school has a large, open plan learning space for the children to learn and play. Our exciting environment encourages independence, ensuring children feel safe, supported and confident to explore the range of activities and learning opportunities available to them.

The pre-school building is surrounded by a large outdoor area with additional forest school area, Children will be invited to choose activities both indoors, and out, which is important for developing children’s natural curiosity.

Our Early Years provision enables every child to fulfill their potential, in a happy and safe environment. Learning opportunities are planned, building upon the individual interests of each child. Topics are organised to ensure learning is sequenced, enabling the children to experience a broad and balanced curriculum. We strive to make every day count in the early years, there are no limits placed upon what children learn in our early years setting.

The day begins with a story, in fact we use the power of stories to underpin much of our learning in pre-school. Children are given the opportunity to investigate, and explore the activities in both the indoor, and outdoor classroom. We stop for snack around 9:45am and use this time to begin to explore the value of routines, hygiene and good manners.

Phonics takes place after snack and is delivered for around 10 minutes in a fun and interactive way using Fred the Frog, more information regarding our phonics scheme; Read Write inc. is available on our school website. The children are invited to ‘choose’ an activity or work with an adult to extend their learning.

Lunch begins at 11:45am, pre-school join reception children for lunch, in the school hall.

Phonics

We believe and value phonics from the start at Cutnall Green, emphasis is placed upon ensuring children develop a love and passion for reading early on. We teach phonics daily, for around ten minutes in small groups. We focus upon a sound per week, and plan lots of fun activities for the children to explore their new sound. Reading books are changed weekly, children will be sent home with a book to share with an adult and a book linked to our phonic scheme.

Forest – Muddy Mondays

Forest school takes place on a Wednesday for pre-school. Our early years staff are Forest School trained, and the forest area is currently undergoing an exciting development, led by our Junior Leadership Team in school. It will have an outdoor classroom, pond, mud kitchen and a real campfire for the children to explore. Forest School activities are carefully planned and each week children will be introduced to a new skill often linked to the sustainable development goals; we want the children of our future to understand how to take care of their immediate environment in practical ways. Children often get muddy during forest school sessions; therefore, we suggest bringing wellies and a waterproof coat or all-in-one for forest play. Children love immersing themselves in the natural area and we do not place restrictions on them - the more mud the better!

Uniform/book bag/water bottle

Our uniform plays a very important part in giving our school its identity. It helps to develop loyalty and pride in belonging to Cutnall Green C of E Primary and Pre-school. Please support us by ensuring that children come to school in the correct uniform. We would ask that children are sent with a sun hat and sun cream when we are lucky enough to get some sunshine equally, a warm winter coat, gloves etc. during cooler months. All uniform and book bags can be purchased online from Brigade Clothing Ltd.
